This is a one year full time programme, in which a Higher National Diploma (HTQ) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is completed. With a career in Electrical engineering as your chosen route, this level 5 course offers students wishing to follow this pathway, both the higher level knowledge, theoretical aspects of mechanical science and design and also the understanding of how this is applied in industry. This qualification will suit students wishing to apply for higher technical level employment with a view to moving into engineering management posts.
The Core Component Units Year 2 (HND):
Unit 35 Professional Engineering Management (Pearson-set)
Unit 39 Further Mathematics
Unit 42 Further Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
Unit 43 Further Electrical Machines and Drives
Unit 44 Industrial Power, Electronics and Storage
Unit 46 Embedded Systems
Unit 52 Further Electrical, Electronic and Digital Principles
Unit 53 Utilisation of Electrical Power
All lecturers teaching this course hold a PCGE or equivalent qualification in education and have their Level 6 qualification in Electrical Engineering. The lecturers at Tameside College in the engineering department hold at least 5 years of revelant industrial experience.
Course Format: face-to-face
Teaching time: 2 days a week
Location: ATC Building at the Tameside College Beaufort Road Campus
The HNC/HND in engineering course is designed to enable students who may have come through a vocational route to progress into higher education, building on the knowledge gained at level 3. Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQ) at levels 4 and 5 are an alternative to apprenticeships or degrees. They may suit you if you want a more practical, employer-led study programme, approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
HTQs are technical qualifications that employers have helped to develop so that you can get the right training and skills you need to succeed at work. As well as studying the academic content of a standard HNC or HND programme the HTQ will also focus on the application of the working knowledge and skills required by industry.
Standard entry to this course requires a Level 4 HNC in Electrical Engineering. An interview is required to ascertain prior achievement.
On completion of this accredited course you will receive a Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering awarded by Pearsons.
Once you have achieved the HND, you will be able to apply to study for a further year to obtain a full degree at university. This qualification is well regarded throughout the industry and the academic world. Career opportunities include managerial and technical positions in mechanical or electrical engineering.
